Bullet Train Domestic Box Office Now Over $100 Million

The action comedy movie, Bullet Train, graced the cinema screens back in August and there have quite some positive reviews about it. The movie’s reviews, amazing cast and its wonderful plot has made domestic fans see it past the 100-million-USD mark. This Bullet Train domestic box office win is actually quite impressive, despite the negative reviews before it was released.

At around June 2020, several reports revealed that Sony Pictures had hired Deadpool 2 movie director, David Leitch. Sony hired Leitch to direct this adaptation of the Japanese novel called Maria Beetle, by Kōtarō Isaka. The Bullet Train movie’s production actually started during the COVID-19 pandemic (precisely in October, 2020). Filming started in Los Angeles on 16th of November, 2020 and finished in March 2021.

Although, the movie is set in modern-day Tokyo, none of it was filmed in Japan at all. They used LED screens with some Japanese countryside video footage for most of the shots. For other shots that were much harder to film with the ‘LED walls’, they switched to blue screens. It’s crazy what new filming technology and VFX can do right?

Bullet Train Domestic Box Office

According to Box Office Mojo, Bullet Train raked in over 30 million USD on its opening weekend. For two weeks in a row, the movie held the number-one box office position in the United States. Globally, the movie has garnered over 231 million USD. As there were no major releases at that point in time, the movie took advantage of that and stayed at top five for the next seven weeks. This Bullet Train domestic box office accomplishment is quite a good one, we can’t deny that.

A whooping 85 to 90 million USD, that’s the movie’s budget and from what we’ve seen, it paid off. Although, there were lots of mixed criticism before it released globally, it still performed well. Some watchers were not in on the comedic part of the movie, while others praised the movie for its exquisite adaptation. They’ve even gone online to talk about how good the it is and how it’s very different from what critics said it was.

It’s also worthy to note that this movie was meant to be a very serious action adaptation of the original 2010 novel. Its developments were at first leaning towards a “Die Hard” type of action thriller but along the line, it swayed to a light-hearted action comedy. This still doesn’t change the fact that the movie is one of 2022’s top epic movies. This recent Bullet Train domestic box office victory says it all.
