Michelle Yeoh’s Oscar: Jet Li Visits & Congratulates Her

On Sunday, Michelle Yeoh made history at the Oscars by becoming the first Asian woman to win Best Actress. Michelle Yeoh’s Oscar win was for her role in the comedy film “Everything Everywhere All At Once“. Congratulatory messages poured in, including one from her good friend and collaborator, action star Jet Li.

Hong Kong film producer Tiffany Chen shared the news on social media on Monday, praising Yeoh’s achievement and performance in the film. In the movie, Michelle Yeoh excellently plays a Evelyn Wang, a Chinese-American immigrant who has to deal with a multiversal crisis. Evelyn must connect with other versions of herself in parallel universes to prevent a powerful being from terminating the multiverse.

Despite the not-so-much budget for the movie, it still captivated the attention of lots of movie lovers. Many netizens even stated that the movie was on par with Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness, a movie with similar multiversal plot. Everything Everywhere All at Once now sits at about 107 million dollars in the box office.

The martial arts displayed in the movie were top-notch. Little wonder it caught the attention of Jet Li, one of the best martial artists in the movie industry. Recently, photos of Jet Li and his daughter, Jane Li, congratulating Michelle Yeoh’s Oscar win were also posted. Lest you forget, Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh have previously worked together in some movies.

Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh’s Past Movies Together

Michelle Yeoh and Jet Li are two highly regarded actors in the martial arts film genre. The two stars have worked together in the past, including on the Hong Kong movie The Tai-Chi Master (1993) and The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor. Brendan Fraser, who co-starred in the latter film with Yeoh and Jet Li, also won an Oscar on Sunday for Best Actor.

The 2008 movie was the third installment of the popular Mummy film franchise. It was set in ancient China and follows adventurer Rick O’Connell (played by Brendan Fraser) and his family as they try to stop the resurrected Emperor Han (played by Jet Li) from using the powerful and dangerous ‘Eye of Shangri-La’ to conquer the world.

Yeoh played Zi Yuan, a sorceress who was the only one who knew how to defeat Han, while Jet Li portrayed both the ruthless emperor and his mummified form. Michelle Yeoh’s Oscar win can also be attributed to her character in this movie because of how well it developed her acting skills. Yeoh’s character had lots of thrilling action sequences, a mix of humor and adventure.

Although the film received mixed reviews from critics, Yeoh and Jet Li’s performances were praised. Their chemistry on screen and their martial arts skills were also highlighted as some of the film’s strengths.
